First, I will say that this book was extremely hard to get in to. I don't know if it was because it was an author from the UK so I didn't understand a lot of the slang terms or if I just wasn't quite on the book bender that I normally am.
Main Characters: Dr. Cyrus Haven & Evie Cormac
This book goes back and forth between the views of Cyrus and Evie. Cyrus is a psychologist and Evie is a ward of the state (so to speak). 6 years ago Evie Cormac was found hiding in an abandon house with a man who was murdered. Cyrus meets Evie in a state run facility. Because they are unable to find out Evie's real identity and age, she became a ward of the state and had to live in a teen living facility. Cyrus decides that he wants to foster Evie. Trust me when I say that when you get to that part of the book, you are going to scratch your head because it makes no sense at all. But as the book goes on, you can see what a great pair these 2 make!
While Evie is in the (foster) care of Cryus he is assisting the local police with a murder investigation. A young girl who was 15 years old had been assaulted and murdered in the middle of the night. Evie gets herself involved in the investigation somehow (you'll see when you read the book) and manages to help Cyrus find the girls killer.
There is a lot to these characters. When reading the book I FELT like I was these 2 characters. I could feel their chemistry. Once I got past the first few chapters I just couldn't put the book down....and the best part?! ITS A SERIES! This was just the first book of the series. If you can get past the language barrier and slow start I promise this is a book you will not be able to put down. You won't WANT to put it down!
The second book in the series is called When She Was Good. I cannot wait to start that!
The development of these 2 characters throughout this book is absolutely amazing. The author Michael Robotham really outdid himself with the writing.
I would give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Now! Onto the next read!
